Leclerc and Ferrari in pole position (starting grid)

Charles Leclerc takes pole position ahead of Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen. Formula 1 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying session summary and standings.

Sergio Perez (P2) seemed to be the favorite to win again against his teammate. But the fast Charles Leclerc finally pulled out all the stops at the very end of qualifying. The Ferrari driver signs his 4th consecutive pole position on the occasion of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with nearly 3 tenths difference on the Mexican and on Max Verstappen (P3). Carlos Sainz misses his last attempt. He fails by almost half a second, in 4th place.

Behind, Pierre Gasly registers at 6th rank between the two mercedes. In the German clan, the trend has not changed. George Russell (P5) seemed comfortable, unlike Lewis Hamilton (P7) who can’t find solutions at the wheel of his W13. Attention, the seven-time world champion is under investigation by the commissioners for driving too slowly.

The meeting was marked by many incidents. The first is a red flag caused by Lance Stroll’s two exits from the road (P20). The second is a simple yellow flag due to the road exit from the other Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel. The German is doing better than his teammate. He manages to rank 9th on the starting grid.
