Kadjar’s successor unveils his profile

The Renault Austral continues to taunt us. A few weeks before its official presentation, the new Renault SUV is shown in unpublished images published by the French manufacturer. Hidden in the twilight, the lines of Kadjar’s replacement are difficult to guess. However, we can spot its C-shaped LED lights, both at the front and at the rear.

Despite everything, Renault gives us indications on the design of its future model. The diamond brand claims that it is an “SUV of character” at the same time “sharp, athletic and modern”. Concretely, according to the statements of Renault, this Austral sports “a marked and structuring fold” in the lower part of its sides. This same fold “energizes the silhouette of the vehicle” and seems to “project it forward” in order to make it “dynamic even when stationary”. It is in any case one of the first models designed under the leadership of Gilles Vidal, former Peugeot design director who now works at Renault. The latter describes the design of the Austral:

Renault Austral combines strong stylistic elements that give it a dynamic and elegant design. Its quality is visible at first glance. We have reduced the bodywork clearances, tweaked the outcrops so that it develops an immediate qualitative feeling.

To make its Austral desirable, Renault also says it has placed the emphasis “on the shoulders”, so as to offer it a muscular style. We also learn that the car will adopt the same grille as the electric Mégane E-Tech, on which Renault has installed a plexiglass plate where patterns and lines are engraved. Illuminated by LEDs, this grille illuminates “in a precise, lively and very identifiable visual effect”.

Only offered as a hybrid

As a reminder, we learned at the beginning of January 2022 that this new vehicle will only be powered by hybrid units, with a 1.3 TCe mild-hybrid 12V, a 1.2 TCe mild-hybrid 48V and an E-Tech Hybrid of new generation. the diesel is for its part thrown into oblivion. A 100% version electric de l’Austral does not appear to be on the program at the moment.

In short

Debauched by Renault after several years spent at Peugeot, Gilles Vidal wants to mark with his paw the new productions of the Losange. The designer says he wanted to give a strong and muscular style to the Austral, the new SUV from the French manufacturer which shows itself a little more on these new images plunged into darkness.
