driver reactions after qualifying

Discover the statements of the drivers after qualifying for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, played this Saturday on the Baku street circuit.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 1st: ” It feels good ! All pole positions are beautiful, this one, I didn’t expect it. I thought Red Bull would be stronger, they were ahead in Q1 and Q2. We were in difficulty when we had to pick up the pace. But in the end, I managed to get a good lap out and that was enough. […] I’m very excited to race here tomorrow. Tire management will be key. In Barcelona and Monaco we managed to manage them well, although in the last race it was hard to see. I think we managed to develop the car well on this point. It will therefore be interesting to see how tomorrow we position ourselves with regard to tire management. »

Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) – 6th: “We can be very happy to separate the two Mercedes. We finished a tenth of a second behind (George) Russell and a tenth of a second ahead of Lewis (Hamilton), so it was a good qualifying. We managed to focus on our session and not make any mistakes. We went for our best qualification of the year. […] If a lot of things can happen like last year, it will be a good thing. We made strategic choices that were a little different from the others, we kept one set of hard tires while the others have two. We will have to closely observe the deterioration of the tires and the different strategies. The most important thing for us was to have a simple and error-free weekend and that’s what we managed to do. For the moment, I am satisfied, we will have to finish the job tomorrow! »

Esteban Ocon (Alpine) – 13th: “We had a yellow flag and I couldn’t finish the job. The first one was in worn tires. We just had to take our marks and therefore set the clock on our second attempts with new tyres. I should have been easily in Q3, I could have been ahead of Fernando (Alonso) at that time. It hurts, because it’s twice in a row, in Monaco and then here. It’s a difficult qualifying, but tomorrow we can go up, because it’s a track where there are opportunities and where we can overtake. […] To score points, you will have to reach the end of this race. It’s super important, but we’re going to do everything for it. »
