Dacia Lodgy: should you still buy it?

The Dacia Lodgy, potential rival of the new Jogger, is living its last year on the market. Does this compact MPV still have real arguments?

Yes, the Lodgy still has real assets…

At Auto-Moto, we salute the performance of the new joggerwhich combines a bargain price and generous roominess. But at Dacia, it’s not new : the Lodgy, in the catalog since 2012, knows how to do it very well too.

This compact MPV has little to envy to the Jogger in terms of practicality. Him too can carry seven real seats (additional cost of €600)thanks to two removable and folding seats in the third row.

Lightweight, they disassemble quite easily. And you get there thanks to a 2/3-1/3 bench seat in the second row, which folds into a wallet. In summary, the Jogger did not invent anything!

On the trunk side, the Lodgy is also capable of transporting a chest of drawers in a 5-seater configuration, with 827 liters of capacity, and can even increase its cargo volume to 2,617 liters all seats folded. It’s a real practical car which, in certain aspects, can compete with a MPV.

Resting on an old B0 platform Loganthe Romanian minivan, made in moroccooffers honorable road services. It can also afford engines unknown to the Jogger: diesels.

With the 1.5 dCi between the front legs, available in 95 and 115 hpthe Lodgy generates performance in accordance with its function, and displays very good sobriety: 5.9 l/100 km on average during our tests.

The mechanical range also includes TCe 100 hp and TCe 130 hp petrol unitsall associated with mechanical gearboxes.

In terms of equipment, the Romanian has standard manual air conditioning, Bluetooth, and can take advantage of the superior finishes ofa touch screen compatible Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, on which appear the GPS, the radio and the image captured by the reversing camera.

Another advantage of this Dacia at the end of its life: it enjoysa good reputation for reliability and, of course, a perfectly unbeatable price/habitability ratio (from €15,200). In 2022, we still get what we pay for and, on the market, only a Jogger can compete…

No, he shows the weight of the years…

The machine is dated and, at first glance, it shows. The search for economy has also led the Lodgy to take over the mirrors from the old Duster. The Stepway version (from €17,100), with its aesthetic artifices, remains however very presentable.

At the first laps too, the Lodgy also struggles to hide its age: the direction is unclear in its midpoint, constantly requiring small course corrections in a straight line.

Sensitivity to side wind is evident too, while the lack of sound deadening is detrimental to well-being. On the fast lanes, you have to raise your voice to be heard rear passengers, and increase the volume of the radio so as not to miss the news.

On board, the presentation also bears witness to the passing years. The Lodgy, unable to camouflage its basic materials as the Jogger does, suffers in addition tooutdated ergonomics.

The endowment ignores the automatic climate control and the “hands-free” access/starting card. It is therefore necessary to deal with a key to be inserted in the Neiman, but also in the tank cap to refuel.

More serious: a lot of security equipment, which has become common on the market, responds to absent subscribers. Autonomous emergency braking, active lane keeping or blind spot monitoring do not appear anywhere, not even among the options. There is however a spare wheel, charged 200 €.
